iWAM Individual Applications

Career Development

The iWAM provides individuals with greater self-awareness and helps discover what type of jobs, roles match their motivational and attitudinal patterns. This can be used in career choices and career planning or development, as in addition to the skills and competencies we are familiar with, the iWAM reveals the motivational background of individuals, this way we can identify not only what we can do, but also what we want to do at work, what kind of environment and roles we feel comfortable with even after a period of time.

Individuals can use the resulting greater self-awareness when evaluating new job opportunities, promotion or rotational opportunities or can base their search on the results. They can also identify what patterns a potential job might require, what changes in their work attitude and motivation has to take place, and whether these can or should be undertaken.

Communication

Our motivational and attitudinal patterns influence the way we behave and also the language we use at work or elsewhere. Familiarizing ourselves with these patterns helps us understand how communication impacts us and how we can influence others through our words. We can identify what kind of language triggers a certain response from us, which key words or phrases can motivate us and which turn us off. Also, we can learn how we should adjust our language when communicating with people of different patterns than ours and also which expressions to use or avoid to motivate people with different patterns. Altogether the information the iWAM provides helps you communicate more effectively with your manager, peers, subordinates, or clients.

Relationships

Sometimes we don't understand why we don't get on well with a colleague when both of us have good intentions, try to cooperate, and achieve common goals. It feels like we were speaking different languages, and this leads to regular conflicts and misunderstandings, to relationships that hinder performance. With the help of the iWAM we can reveal the motivational and attitudinal patterns that explain our behavior to a higher extent than probably any other factor does. By understanding our own patterns and behavior - and learning what dimensions and signs to look out for in other individuals - we can develop a deeper understanding and mutual respect for each other, which helps relationships, cooperation, and hence enhances our performance.

Motivation and the iWAM 'Job Clock'

Motivation - just like everything else - does not last forever. Even when all circumstances are suitable and motivating, some people look for a change as their 'Work Clock' expires. Also, for some, change itself can be a motivational factor. People have different attitude to and need for changes: some like things to be stable, some like their environment to change. Some like gradual changes, some need to shake up their world on a regular basis. In the work context this occurs as a need for a change in the role or job one fills, or a change in the company one works for, or a change in the geographic location.

The iWAM reveals these 'change' patterns as motivational patterns and shows us what our 'Clock' looks like, for how many years we are willing to stay in a specific job or role, and after how many years we need a change to be motivated again. Learning about our motivation by changes helps us take career decisions as well as plan our work and life.
